-Five Times Synaesthesia Was A Problem For Tony Stark by Sonora. Probably my favorite Tony/Bruce fic ever, even though it is mostly Tony-centric. I would have never thought of Tony having this condition, but it actually MAKES A FUCKTON OF SENSE AND EXPLAINS TONY SO MUCH. The multitude of emotions that Tony experiences in this fic, from initial confusion as a child to sadness at not being able to explain it to anyone to his bitterness are so palpable, and the hope he feels once he meets Bruce will make your heart soar.
-beginnings after endings series by hulks. This one is seven parts, exploring the relationship between the two after the events in the Avengers. It doesn’t necessarily have to be read in order, you can read each part as a standalone and it makes sense on its own, too. I love the slow build in this series to a relationship, and how the author deftly portrays Tony and Bruce as two guys with a lot in common, who don’t really know how to go from friends to lovers. The shift in the relationship from total bros to total bros who sleep together is just divine. The best part, though, has to be part 2, changing channels, because two guys helping each other out while watching porn is one of my most favorite, favorite, favorite tropes ever.
-so here’s to drinks in the dark at the end of my rope by sleeponrooftops. THE MOTHER OF ALL TONY/BRUCE FICS. Tony and Bruce learn to trust each other, trust themselves, and it sounds so simple, but it’s so much more than that. What I love most about this fic is that I can easily see this happening. As in this is exactly what happens in between the first movie and the next, and you can’t convince me otherwise.
-breaking beds in dubai by hulks. In which Bruce is unable to say how he feels out loud, so Hulk steps in. It starts out as sweet, but that last line is heartbreaking. That last line is what earned me the ‘WTF?’ look from my co-workers when I had to shove my fist into my mouth to keep from sobbing.
-the world’s a beast of a burden by sleeponrooftops. There’s nothing I love more than seeing a relationship through the eyes of another character. This time it’s Steve, who doesn’t understand how someone like Bruce can trust, let alone love, someone like Tony. What I love most about this fic is that it doesn’t portray Steve as mean or judgmental, which can be an issue when it comes to Steve/Tony interaction in general. This fic doesn’t do that, and of course the Tony/Bruce is divine.
-The Small Things by anonymous. Five things Tony didn’t know about Bruce, and the one thing he already did. This sweet, lovely fic fleshes out Bruce, giving him characterization beyond brilliant scientist who turns into a giant green rage monster. Not to mention I’m a sucker for the ‘five things’ trope and love fics.
-Writing I <3 You by outerealm. In Bruce takes to expressing his feelings through science on Tony’s body. So sweet, so hot at the same time. Both of them expressing themselves the only way they can, a way that no one else can understand.
-Tony talks down the Hulk by anonymous. Kink meme fill in which Tony has to calm the Hulk down, and uses the opportunity to confess that Bruce is not just his science bro. Lovely little fill that showcases the absolute trust and faith Tony has in Bruce.
-Hell Ain’t A Bad Place To Be series by Ravenspear. An AU in which Tony, who survives the events in Afghanistan but is a little darker, a little more bleak, commits treason to rescue Bruce Banner, a man he doesn’t know but admire, from years of captivity, experimentation, and torture. It has two parts so far, and I try not to rec works in progress, but this one is so damn good I can’t help myself. I love Tony so much in this, and Bruce is so precious and sad and I just can’t.
-Into the Dark by Cashay. Where Bruce and the Hulk have a conversation, and realize that they’re both in agreement when it comes to Tony Stark. I’m a sucker for fics like this, the man speaking face to face with the monster inside of them.
-and this is the end of the story by yugimutos. Tony knows what will happen if the arc reactor gets into the wrong hands, and forces Bruce to make a promise that Bruce eventually has to keep. The beauty of this fic is how understated it is, which allows the full tragedy of the situation to hit you like a ton of bricks. I love this story so much because it speaks volumes about the kind of person both Tony and Bruce are, and how both of them are big damn heroes who will make the right call, even at the sacrifice of themselves.
Sexytimes in the name of science (the stories that remind you that big brains are the most vital sex organ)
-Positive Trend by by gqgqqt. Bruce wears a suit, Tony approves, and the readers spontaneously combusts from the hotness. Bottom!Tony seems to be the current trend, so Bruce riding Tony like a pony is much, much welcome.
-Shaded by miltennious. Blowjobbery and gratituous usage of the arc reactor. I’m not necessarily sold on the arc reactor being an erogenous zone for Tony (too much trauma behind it, i.e. the fact that it’s the only thing keeping Tony alive plus Obadiah stealing it from him and leaving him die), but this fic uses the arc reactor in a clever way. Plus I can never, ever resist a blowjob.
-Unexpected Uses by Noxnoctisanima. Tony makes some additions to his suit in the name of science. And orgasms. I love blowjobbery, but frottage is my Kryptonite, y’all.
-Accidental stimulation by anonymous. Another kink meme fill in which Tony and Bruce are stuck in a very small space, but it works out in the favor. Again, I really, really love frottage. I especially love it when the two involved are chest to back. It pleases my senses, just as this fic does.
-Forty-Four Times Bruce Banner Has Sex With Tony Stark by Ark. The evolution of Tony’s and Bruce’s sex life, with feels along the way. Funny, hot, and sweet all at the same time.
-Distractions by anonymous. Kink meme fill where Bruce talking about science really, really turns Tony on, and Tony being Tony decides that jerking off in the lab while Bruce is talking is a perfectly sensible solution.
-Tony’s Brilliant Bad Idea by zelda_zee. Bruce is certain that sex with Tony is a terrible idea. Tony proves him otherwise. Excellent Bruce voice, and Tony is his usual insistent, charming self. What I really love about this fic is the way Tony is both insistent yet soothing, reassuring Bruce that he doesn’t have to live like a hermit, that he can trust Tony and most of all, himself.
-you’re not the only one with restraint by DevilishKurumi. Tony is persistent, Bruce tries to resist but fails, and there is blowjobbery and safe words like quantum mechanics. I think one of the reasons why I love PWPs for this pairing is because it’s not all just penetrative sex, there is a wide variety of blowjobs and handjobs and frottage and yes good.
-Experiments And Control by Salmon_Pink. Tony is organized chaos, but needs to be controlled, needs to be dominated. Bruce is just the man to give that to him. This fic ends up on the list for the following reasons; 1. The author does a great job of portraying Tony as submissive without making him weak. 2. The author does a FANTASTIC job of showing Bruce as dominant, instead of Bruce being dominant thanks to the Hulk’s influence. 3. The dirty talk is EXTREMELY hot without being too cheesy or overbearing.

So you’ve just caught up on Spartacus, and you need more. But if you’re like me, you just started watching it AFTER the season two finale, so you’ve got an ENTIRE YEAR BEFORE YOU HAVE MORE SPARTACUS IN YOUR LIFE. Fret not, followers. We can pass the time with fanfic, and you may look no further than this post. Of course, this list will be updated as new fic pops up, and you are more than welcome to point me in the direction of any stories I’ve missed.
One thing I do want to say; the writers in this fandom are phenomenal! Spartacus is a show that has such a distinct tone with its dialogue, and the writers in this fandom are fantastic at capturing that same tone without the words seeming out of place. They are also fantastic at capturing what this show provides; blood, sex, and all the feels.

Agron/Nasir (because most important ship goes first)
-Free Boys of Syria by aeternium. Possibly the most recced Nagron fic of all time, for good fucking reason. The most beautifully written Nagron fic ever, exploring both of their lives before slavery, during slavery, after slavery. Aeternium is hands down the best Nagron author ever, and the entirety of her work will probably end up on my list. But this one has to be my favorite of them all.
-I Will Help Shoulder Weight by agggron. If you’re like me, you’ve been DYING for the scenes we never got on the show, the moments that led Agron and Nasir to become the most perfect ship to ever set sail on the OTP Sea. This fic fleshes out those moments, and it is lovely.
-Samson by aeternium. Where Nasir and Agron share a quiet moment after the battle of Vesuvius. Poetic yet haunting, bittersweet yet triumphant. Nasir coming into his own, and becoming the warrior that no one thought he could be.
-A Gift From East of the Rhine by einfach_mich. AU in which Nasir is Agron’s dominus. Wonderfully in character even with the two of them in roles that are wildly different from who they are on the show. And hot. Hot, hot, hot.
-Heartlines by aeternium. This one comes very, very close to toppling Free Boys of Syria as my favorite Nagron fic. Upon seeing the happiness of others, Agron honors the customs of his people as he pledges himself to Nasir. Look, I’m a stone cold bitch, and this fic had me making literal gross sobbing noises when I was done. I am cold (although not Nordic like Betty Draper), but understated declarations of love and devotion hit me in that heart-shaped placed in my chest.
-Taking Care of You by ama. Modern AU, telling the story of how Agron and Nasir ended up together. What I love most about this fic is how thoroughly modern it is, and yet the author’s characterization of the characters is EXACTLY like their portrayals on the show. Agron, especially, is so Agron-like in this story, even in the modern setting. And the appearance by Crixus may be the most wonderful thing I’ve ever read in my life, both for its hilarity and how very Crixus-like he is.
-The Will of the Gods by herlovewasajoke. AU in which Agron is captured by the Romans, and Nasir will stop at nothing to rescue him. I love this fic so much. Nasir, while definitely beautiful and definitely kind-hearted, was once a slave, and there is darkness in him, a fire that can’t be put out. I mean, this is the same man, while small in stature and was nothing but a body slave, who tried to kill Spartacus, the slayer of the shadow of death, by sneaking up on him while he laid in bed with Mira. This fic does a wonderful job of showing that resourcefulness, that cunning nature, that darkness that we’ve only seen glimpses of on the show.
-Neither timid nor tame by laufeytte. Agron learns to live after Duro’s death robs him of the will to do so. The thing I love most about this pairing is that I am fascinated and intrigued by both characters equally. It is easy to take Agron at face value, to only notice the temper and the snarky one-liners, but there is depth to him, and there is much grief that he carries. This fic explores that grief, and the death wish that stems from it, until he meets Nasir and slowly learns that it is not a betrayal to live his life without his brother at his side.
-Close To The Frozen Borderline by ladderax. AU. Agron loses an arm, loses his shit, but Nasir refuses to give up on him and refuses to let Agron wallow in his pity. Agron is such a wonderfully fascinating character to me, and this fic does such a great job of showing all the different facets of Agron.
-Small Triumphs by slipthroughknot. I know this show is about Spartacus, but I really want to know more about slaves like Nasir and Naevia, slaves that were born into it and had never known freedom before Spartacus and his band of merry men freed them. I love this fic for showing how Nasir’s life as a body slave still influences his behavior, how difficult it is for him to let go of the life where he learned that he had no one but himself, where he learned to defer to bigger, stronger men than him. And the very end, when he finally learns to let go and begins to share stories of his life with his brother…gross sobbing, y’all. So. Much. Gross. Sobbing.
-Us painless, us blameless by laufeyette. I will never tire of fics that explore Nasir experiencing attention without expectation, and him fumbling as he tries to figure out how to navigate this new and terrifying situation. Going from a pampered (as pampered as they can be anyway) body slave to living in the wild amongst men two times his size, without the comforts and luxuries of living in a villa and no longer having to submit to his master’s whims and finally able to decide for himself what he wants has to be so daunting. This fic captures all of this beautifully.
-a boy across the river by clutchedlights. Agron struggles to find the proper words to address Nasir for the first time. The jokes about Agron’s terrible pick-up lines may be my favorite fandom inside joke of all time, but the author takes that fandom joke and turns it into an introspective, bittersweet, and moving tale that provides insight into such a layered, beloved character. There are seriously not enough words to convey how much I love this story.
-ADDED 5/11: Fortes Fortuna Iuvat by xfrancesca. AU. Nagron. Zombie apocalypse. Nagron and zombies? THIS PLEASES MY SENSES. But seriously, this fic really captures both the Nagron dynamic and paints a beautiful picture of a world gone to ruin, and how global devastation can completely alter the person you are.
-ADDED 5/11: In which two awkward people utterly FAIL to flirt properly by Eris18. Modern AU, exactly what the title suggests. Hilarious, in character, and completely charming. Agron in this piece LIGHTS UP MY LIFE.
-ADDED 5/11: I’ve Got No Strings by agggron. AU. Lucretia takes interest in Agron, and Nasir does what he must in order to ensure Agron will survive. Ugh this fic. It’s so unbearably hot, but so sad when you actually sit and think about it. This fic does things to me, and breaks my brain in a good way with the conflicting emotions.
Ilithyia (because everybody knows she’s a motherfucking monster)
-Dangerous Jobs for Girls by aeternium. Yes, this author is all over this list. No, I will not stop reccing her fics. AU in which Ilithyia realizes that Glaber does not love her, and decides to make her own fate. While this would have never happened on the show, this is still amazingly in character, and warms my heart to see Ilithyia being valued for her gifts. Because haters can hate, I love Ilithyia with all my being.
-ADDED 5/11: Plaything by anonymous. Ilithyia/Agron. You know how sometimes, you have two favorite characters, and you never expect them to interact at all, but then you find a fic featuring the two of them and you suddenly realize that you need this pairing together more than you need air? This is what happened when I read this. Bless the internet for showing me things I never knew I needed.
-ADDED 5/11: Decorus Somnium by fembuck. Lucretia/Ilithyia. My queeeeeeens. A wonderful take on the twisted, always evolving relationship between these two powerful ladies. This one especially hurts after the season 2 finale, but again, I maintain that THIS IS WHAT SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED.
Barca/Pietros (because they’re together and happy in the afterlife, goddamn it)
-It’s Always the Quiet Ones by vampyreranger. Where Pietros is no wilting flower, and Barca realizes that he’s misjudged this small, pretty boy.
-Wings Unfolding by recrudescence. The Barca/Pietros backstory we should have gotten on the show, but never did. I love this fic because yes, Pietros is young but not naive, innocent but not stupid, fragile but not broken. I love fics that recognize this.
-Aviary by herlovewasajoke. Barca/Pietros, first time. Ugh, I am jealous at how fantastically the author is able to perfectly embody Barca’s entire personality and presence in a sex scene.
-ADDED 5/11: Journeyman by azarias. The Holy Grail of Barca/Pietros fic. This was recced to me by Aeternium, and oh my God, this story is amazing. AU in which Barca and Pietros did not die horrible, senseless deaths, bought their freedom, and define their relationship as they search for a new place to call their home. This is exactly how their lives turned out and I refuse to believe otherwise.
Crixus/Naevia (because who would have thought that Crixus would turn out to be the most feminist boyfriend in the history of television)
-Alive When She Was Dying by aeternium. In which Naevia grieves for her lost self, but learns to become something different, something better. Naevia could have turned out to the eternal victim, but I love the way she is reclaiming herself, and how Crixus never, EVER stands in the way, not even when it pains him to see her suffering. This fic captures that aspect of their relationship perfectly.
-A Whore in Virgin Cloth by aeternium. I like to refer to this story as the story where Naevia deals with a lot of fucking shit, but survives.
Gannicus (because he is the fandom little black dress that matches every pair of shoes you own)
-Tongues by bygoshbygolly. Gannicus/Saxa. Where they don’t need words to convey what the both of them really want. Git it Saxa, and never ever quit it.
Lady ships (because everyone gets equal amount of characterization and sexy times on this show)
-Love After Life by bygoshbygolly. Sura/Mira. The two find a way to pass the time as they wait for Spartacus to join them in the afterlife. What a wonderful fic featuring two characters that never met, but influenced each other’s lives greatly. Poor Mira may have been shafted while she lived, but having her love returned twofold makes me happy.
-ADDED 5/11: Tender Hands by goshbygolly. Mira/Saxa. AU in which Mira survives the ax, and she and Saxa are queens who fight, train, and love each other with passion and tenderness. This is what SHOULD have happened.

-The Third of Three by Elenius. AU, Spartacus/Nasir, if you squint hard enough. Oh, my guilty crack OTP. I may or may not have screamed when I saw the pairing. Beautiful, stunning, and heartbreaking account of Spartacus and Nasir after Agron’s death. I need more Spartacus/Nasir in my life. I am not ashamed.
-ad astra per aspera by emptypalm. AU, Duro/Diona. One of the things I love most about fandom in general is how characters can be shipped, even if they’ve never interacted. Duro and Diona never even appeared in the same season of Spartacus, but that didn’t stop emptypalm from creating a wonderful, lovely and bittersweet story that shows the bright hope of blossoming love even in the most horrific circumstances.

-Us painless, us blameless by laufeyette. I will never tire of fics that explore Nasir experiencing attention without expectation, and him fumbling as he tries to figure out how to navigate this new and terrifying situation. Going from a pampered (as pampered as they can be anyway) body slave to living in the wild amongst men two times his size, without the comforts and luxuries of living in a villa and no longer having to submit to his master’s whims and finally able to decide for himself what he wants has to be so daunting. This fic captures all of this beautifully.
-a boy across the river by clutchedlights. Agron struggles to find the proper words to address Nasir for the first time. The jokes about Agron’s terrible pick-up lines may be my favorite fandom inside joke of all time, but the author takes that fandom joke and turns it into an introspective, bittersweet, and moving tale that provides insight into such a layered, beloved character. There are seriously not enough words to convey how much I love this story.
Ilithyia (because everybody knows she’s a motherfucking monster)
-Dangerous Jobs for Girls by aeternium. Yes, this author is all over this list. No, I will not stop reccing her fics. AU in which Ilithyia realizes that Glaber does not love her, and decides to make her own fate. While this would have never happened on the show, this is still amazingly in character, and warms my heart to see Ilithyia being valued for her gifts. Because haters can hate, I love Ilithyia with all my being.
Barca/Pietros (because they’re together and happy in the afterlife, goddamn it)
-It’s Always the Quiet Ones by vampyreranger. Where Pietros is no wilting flower, and Barca realizes that he’s misjudged this small, pretty boy.
-Wings Unfolding by recrudescence. The Barca/Pietros backstory we should have gotten on the show, but never did. I love this fic because yes, Pietros is young but not naive, innocent but not stupid, fragile but not broken. I love fics that recognize this.
-Aviary by herlovewasajoke. Barca/Pietros, first time. Ugh, I am jealous at how fantastically the author is able to perfectly embody Barca’s entire personality and presence in a sex scene.
Crixus/Naevia (because who would have thought that Crixus would turn out to be the most feminist boyfriend in the history of television)
-Alive When She Was Dying by aeternium. In which Naevia grieves for her lost self, but learns to become something different, something better. Naevia could have turned out to the eternal victim, but I love the way she is reclaiming herself, and how Crixus never, EVER stands in the way, not even when it pains him to see her suffering. This fic captures that aspect of their relationship perfectly.
-A Whore in Virgin Cloth by aeternium. I like to refer to this story as the story where Naevia deals with a lot of fucking shit, but survives.
Gannicus (because he is the fandom little black dress that matches every pair of shoes you own)
-Tongues by bygoshbygolly. Gannicus/Saxa. Where they don’t need words to convey what the both of them really want. Git it Saxa, and never ever quit it.
Lady ships (because everyone gets equal amount of characterization and sexy times on this show)
-Love After Life by bygoshbygolly. Sura/Mira. The two find a way to pass the time as they wait for Spartacus to join them in the afterlife. What a wonderful fic featuring two characters that never met, but influenced each other’s lives greatly. Poor Mira may have been shafted while she lived, but having her love returned twofold makes me happy.

Rothstein isn’t quite sure what impresses him more about the queer looking fellow who currently has his gun leveled at the small V between his eyebrows; the fact he would dare to come to Saratoga and pull a gun on the King of New York, or the fact that Richard Harrow looks thoroughly undisturbed by the quiet fact he will not walk out of this town alive. Scarred and jaded is not stupid. Still, despite the eerie silence a stable at midnight affords, Richard seems more intrigued then unhappy that Rothstein isn’t blinking.
And why should he, really? There’s a fifty-fifty chance Harrow will pull the trigger or he won’t. That’s better odds then most any game here will offer; AR likes his chances. It’s like flipping a coin. He’ll either win, or Harrow will but even if he does, it won’t bring Darmody back. So that counts for something.
I just want who pulled the trigger. The soldier demands.
“Well don’t look at me,” AR returns. “I just put the gun in their hand.”
