Dario Marianelli - The Half Killed

The cost of oblivious daydreaming was always this moment of return, the realignment with what had been before and now seemed a little worse. Her reverie, once rich in plausible details, had become a passing silliness before the hard mass of the actual. It was difficult to come back.

Atonement, Ian McEwan (via seaembraces)

Typically I don’t have a blood kink, but this? This ignites a blood kink so huge that even Nosferatu would be like, “Damn gurl calm yo tits.”

#and in that moment i swear YOU SHOULD HAVE FUCKING STOPPED AND TALKED TO THE KID SHE IS A CHILD THIS WOULD PROBABLY BE A GOOD TIME TO EXPLAIN TO HER THAT YOU TWO WERE FUCKING AND IN THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF PAIN AND YES BRIONY IS A DELUSIONAL LITTLE CUNT WHO HAS LET HER LIFELONG CRUSH ON ROBBIE TWIST INTO A HORRIBLE SEMI-SUBCONSCIOUS VENDETTA AGAINST HIS EXPRESSING AFFECTION FOR CECILIA BUT REALLY SHE IS STILL A KID AND YOU TWO JUST WALK OUT OF THE GODDAMN ROOM WITHOUT MAKING EYE CONTACT WHILE BRIONY IS CLEARLY UPSET SERIOUSLY EXPLAIN TO HER THE JOYS OF FUCKING EXPLAIN IT TO HER BECAUSE EVERYTHING IS ABOUT TO GO TO HELL.

THIS. ALL OF THE PAIN AND THE HEARTBREAK AND THE DEATH COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF THE TWO OF THEM HAD JUST STOPPED FOR A MOMENT, SAT BRIONY DOWN, AND EXPLAINED TO HER THAT ROBBIE WAS NOT HURTING CECILIA. I UNDERSTAND THAT SEX IS A TABOO SUBJECT CONSIDERING THE TIMEFRAME OF THE FILM, BUT JESUS F CHRIST YOU TWO SHE’S JUST A LITTLE GIRL AND SINCE YOU GUYS ARE ADULTS YOU SHOULDN’T JUST WALK RIGHT PAST A CRYING LITTLE GIRL AND IGNORE HER. ESPECIALLY YOU, CECILIA, SINCE THAT CRYING LITTLE GIRL IS YOUR SISTER AND UP UNTIL THIS MOMENT YOU DIDN’T SEEM TO HAVE A LOT OF ISSUES WITH BRIONY.

Followers, take a look at this woman. You’re looking at a finely educated woman who has thus far refused to settle down and marry someone who is not her intellectual equal. You’re looking at a woman who despite the walls she’s built around herself (and oh, has she built walls around herself) allowed herself to be open and vulnerable to the point of tears. You’re looking at a woman who despite her privileged upbringing defended the man she loved more than anything not only because she knew he was innocent, but because it was the right thing to do. You’re looking at a woman who refused to bow to her family’s wishes of sweeping the dirty secret under the rug, and cut them from her life without regret. You’re looking at a woman who shunned her upbringing so she could play her part in helping soliders and her community (even if she did find the apartment ghastly). You’re looking at a woman who would have accepted the shame of marrying a “criminal” because society’s perception didn’t matter to her, he did.  You’re looking at a woman who had a love that most of us dream of taken away from her too soon, a woman whose life was taken far too soon. You’re looking at a woman who deserved far more than she got, but lived and loved so fiercely, so passionately during that brief time.
You are looking at Cecilia Tallis, and this is a Cecilia Motherfucking Tallis appreciation post.
